What an amazing week! The Festival of Nature celebrated 15 years of engaging people with the natural world last week with nearly 20,000 people joining the fun!
Following on from City Nature Challenge back at the end of April, the Festival kicked off at Green Park in Bath on June 2nd. The sun shone down on our free family festival in the park before we retreated to Green Park Station for the inaugural Pop Up Wildlife Party in the evening featuring live music, stand up comedy and wildlife pub quiz!
The fab weather and amazing turn out continued as we launched into a week of fascinating walks, talks, debates and exhibitions, going behind the scenes of major BBC productions, diving in to the mysteries of the tides and unraveling the nature of fashion.
The week also featured two professional conference events attached to the Festival’s sister programme Communicate – the UK conference for environmental communicators. In the glorious surrounds of Ashton Court we dug a little deeper into the links between nature, health and wellbeing. We then welcomed top environmental communicators from across the country to explore the serendipity and strategy that has rocketed the challenge of marine plastics to the forefront of public consciousness.
Finishing in style, the festival closed with our flagship big weekend on Bristol Harbourside showcasing the great and good of the natural world through interactive exhibits, engaging performance and exciting activities.
For the first time in 15 years we were blessed with fine weather throughout and over 15000 visitors joined us to relax in our pop up wildlife garden, try their hands at hedge laying, enjoy the delights of the food market or chill out with a cider alongside the music stage.
