Volunteer at Overstory!

29th July 2022

We have an exciting new volunteering opportunity at The Natural History Consortium! Join us as we celebrate trees during our tree inspired art installation, Overstory, taking place in Bristol's Broadmead in August.

We are looking for volunteers from the 19-25th August to help us run free family crafts activities. This role will suit friendly people who enjoy working with children and getting crafty. Come and join us for a day or more, any time you can give us will be hugely appreciated!

What is the Overstory Project?

Overstory is a tree-inspired immersive art installation happening in Bristol’s Broadmead West in August, inspired by and celebrating trees. Find out more here.

Alongside the free-to-attend artistic installation we will be running a programme of engaging, fun and free activities to encourage audiences to connect with trees, take positive action, and find out about the challenges facing trees and woodlands. The engagement activities will focus on the three themes: create, protect, explore.

Engagement activities will take place in two locations: at our activity zone on the street in Broadmead and in our pop-up ‘shop’ in The Galleries shopping centre.

What's involved in volunteering?

We are looking for friendly volunteers to help us to deliver drop-in craft activities at our outdoor Broadmead activity zone and in the pop-up ‘shop’. The activities will take place from Friday 19th to Thursday 25th August 10am - 4pm each day. This will involve:

🎨 Arriving at 9.30am to help set and find out about the craft activities
🍃 Assisting children with crafts: explaining activities to children in a clear and simple way and supporting them with making their creations
🍁 Clearing the craft areas as you go
✏️ Encouraging families to have a go
🌴 Chatting to people about the artwork and other free engagement activities (we’ll share briefing notes)
🌸 Setting up and packing down the activities
🌿 Following the health and safety and child protection policies

How to register!

If you’d like to be involved for one or more of the days, please email volunteers@bnhc.org.uk with your availability.
