Free Festival of Nature Schools' Day: Friday 15th June 2012

Sponsored by Clifton College

Schools Day

Key Stage 2 students from across the South West are invited for a FREE visit to the Bristol Festival of Nature 2012, on a special day run exclusively for schools. On Friday 15th June 2012, at-Bristol Millennium Square and the Lloyd’s Amphitheatre, on Bristol's Harbourside will come alive with hands-on environment and science activities for KS2 pupils.

The Bristol Festival of Nature is a great opportunity to give your class an amazing and inspiring day out. Interactive activities will be provided by a diverse range of organisations, including BBC Natural History Unit, Bristol Zoo Gardens, University of Bristol, UWE, Avon Wildlife Trust and more. Activities are co-ordinated by education specialists, and supported by festival volunteers.

Activities explore wildlife, the environment and various aspects of biology through engaging activities that have key learning outcomes, and provide stimulus for follow up discussion and learning back in the classroom, linking into key areas of the Key Stage 2 Science National Curriculum and also feeding into Citizenship, Geography, and English.

90 minute slots, encompassing three different activities, are available on a first-come first-served basis, by contacting Sarah Briggs on 0117 317 8751, or Turn on JavaScript!.

 Clifton College

‘Clifton has provided a first-class education for nearly 150 years and has always had a strong reputation for leading the way in the teaching of Science particularly through practical work. The newly refurbished Science School, opened by Professor Lord Winston, provides outstanding teaching and technical support for pupils who are encouraged to use their experimental skills and develop an appetite for scientific discovery.

Bristol is at the forefront of a very exciting time in environmental thinking and this gives us an opportunity to inspire and enthuse all our young people, working in partnership with other highly-respected local and national organisations within the hands-on scientific environment.

Clifton is delighted to support Schools’ Day and hopes it will encourage young girls and boys to be excited by the natural world.’
