Frequently Asked Questions
What is a BioBlitz?
This year's BioBlitz was a 30-hour race again the clock event where scientists, naturalists, students, members of public, schools and community groups worked together to find and identify as much wildlife as possible in the Blaise Castle Estate.

Who participated?
BioBlitz brought together adults and children from all backgrounds and expertise. No existing knowledge about nature or wildlife was needed to be able join in. Volunteers, students, naturalists, families, school groups and everyone in between came together in this giant biodiversity event. By working alongside one another we brought the knowledge, enthusiasm, technology, organisation and helping hands together to create a real scientific survey.
Where did it take place?
The 2010 BioBlitz was held this year at Blaise Castle Estate, Kingsweston Road, Bristol BS10 7QS. Base Camp was in a large marquee situated outside the cafe/vistor centre.
When was it?
The BioBlitz ran from 9am Friday 21st May – 3pm Saturday 22nd May 2010. Surveying ran for the full 30-hours, and the event was open to our pre-registered school groups from 9AM - 3PM on Friday and open to the general public from 3pm – 9pm on Friday and 9am – 3pm on the Saturday.
Why do a BioBlitz?
A BioBlitz is an opportunity to bring scientists, naturalists, environment and wildlife agencies, nature enthusiasts, students, school groups and the general public together to discover and experience what nature has to offer. It has the dual aims of establishing the degree of biodiversity in the estate and popularising science and nature and wildlife recording.
