A FREE place for schools!
Due to high interest the BioBlitz schools day is now full, thanks to all the schools who showed an interest in attending.

This year’s BioBlitz will be held at Arnos Vale Cemetery, and the schools day will be on Friday, May 25th. Arnos Vale is a fantastic 45 acre site south of the city centre and holds over 150 years of Bristol's history. The site has a spectacular landscape with many listed buildings and monuments of architectural importance and a haven for wildlife in an urban setting. Arnos Vale Cemetery is a quiet place of remembrance, a site rich in heritage and is Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI).
The schools day offers a fantastic opportunity for groups to gain hands on experience with the wildlife on their doorstep, help with genuine scientific surveys and learn from the naturalists who are experts in their fields. A BioBlitz offers many opportunities for learning and includes many links with the national curriculum, mainly focusing on Biology, but also covering a variety of subjects such as habitats, food chains, history and religion. The event is FREE to attend and focuses on a hands on learning experience.
Set up in the field lab this year will be some fantstic digital microscopes rigged up to laptops, kindly supplied by ICT for Learning and Orchard School, an amazing way to get a close look at creepy crawlies, magical moths and beautiful butterflies.

This years event will be held at Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bath Road, BS4 3EW, Friday 25 May 2012 will be the schools day.
Who is it for?
The workshop is suitable for all levels, and is ideal for developing pupils’ scientific enquiry skills in Sc1 while providing rich, real-life scenarios inUnit Sc2:
Variation and Classification (4a - to make and use keys, 4b - how locally occurring animals and plants can be identified and assigned to groups, 4c - that the variety of plants and animals makes it important to identify them and assign them to groups)
Living things in their environment (5b - about the different plants and animals found in different habitats).
What schools had to say about the 2010 BioBlitz:
"We are striving to develop our school grounds and outside areas. The contact we have had this year adds ideas and information to our melting pot. From the children's point of view and the teachers' the personal contact and interaction that accompanies the activities is what brings it alive for us. A BIG THANKS."
“Thank you to you guys for putting on such an ace event! I know that myself, the other staff and the children that came along, had a superb time!”
